Social Learning Groups

At The Whole Child Connection, we nurture social skills in young children through specialised Social Learning Groups for ages 3–7 and 8–11. Using DIRFloortime® and Social Thinking® Methodology, we create interactive, play-based experiences that celebrate each child’s unique strengths and needs.

With small groups of 3–5 children, we ensure quality interactions through activities like role play, sensory play, and arts and crafts. Our neurodiversity-affirming approach fosters self-awareness, communication, and perspective-taking, empowering children to thrive socially in an inclusive environment.

The Preschool Years Group - 3-4 years

We support the social and emotional development of preschool-aged children (3–4 years) through our Social Learning Groups, using the evidence-based DIRFloortime® approach. Tailored to each child’s needs, our program fosters meaningful connections, emotional regulation, and communication skills in an engaging, supportive environment through sensory, play-based, and child-centred activities. Our team works closely with families to provide individualised support, helping children build a strong foundation for future success.

The Early Years Group - 4-7 years

The “We Thinkers” curriculum, developed by Social Thinking®, supports young children in building essential social skills through play-based learning. Rooted in the Social Thinking® Methodology, it uses interactive activities and imaginative play to foster perspective-taking, problem-solving, and cooperation in an engaging and supportive environment. As a neurodiversity-affirming practice, we integrate this approach to celebrate each child’s unique way of learning and socialising.

The Primary Years Group - 8-11 years

Our Primary Years Social Learning Groups utilise the Social Thinking Methodology to help children with autism, ADHD, and other neurodivergent traits build social competencies. We understand that each child’s journey is unique, and our approach is tailored to their individual needs and strengths. By focusing on understanding and respecting their neurodiversity, we create a supportive environment where children feel empowered to learn and grow at their own pace. Our therapist workers are trained to recognise and respect the challenges faced by children with autism, ADHD and other developmental delays in social situations, ensuring that every child receives the support and understanding they deserve. We utilise dynamic tools like “Social Detectives” and “Superflex,” both essential elements of the Social Thinking Methodology. These resources are thoughtfully chosen to provide our students with essential skills for navigating the intricacies of social interactions during this critical developmental phase. As we believe all children learn best through play, we make our activities fun for all our young clients targeting their interests for their active engagement and participation. We prioritise a neurodiversity-affirming approach and utilise Social Thinking Methodology in a manner that respects and supports this philosophy.
