Parent Coaching

Parent coaching supports caregivers to better understand their child and confidently support their social, emotional, and developmental growth in everyday life. All coaching is neuroaffirming, strengths-based, and respectful of each child’s unique developmental profile.

DIRFloortime® Parent Coaching

DIRFloortime®, developed by Dr. Stanley Greenspan and Dr. Serena Wieder, is a developmental, relationship-based approach. It focuses on Functional Emotional Developmental Capacities (FEDCs) the foundational building blocks for shared attention, communication, emotional regulation, and problem-solving.

How parent coaching helps

Understand your child’s individual developmental profile using the FEDC framework

Learn how to follow your child’s lead in play and daily routines

Support emotional regulation, communication, and social engagement

Strengthen connection and trust through meaningful, play-based interactions

Evidence-based

DIRFloortime® is supported by research demonstrating improvements in social-emotional development, engagement, and communication skills.

Collaborative & Proactive Solutions (CPS) Parent Coaching

CPS, developed by Dr. Ross Greene, is a collaborative approach to understanding and responding to challenging behaviours. Rather than attempting to modify behaviour unilaterally, CPS focuses on identifying unsolved problems and working together with the child to develop mutually workable solutions.

How parent coaching helps

Identify triggers and underlying skill gaps

Use collaborative problem-solving instead of power-based strategies

Support children to meet expectations while promoting autonomy

Reduce frustration, conflict, and recurring challenges

Evidence-based

CPS is supported by strong research showing reductions in challenging behaviours and improvements in relationships and problem-solving skills.

Parent Coaching as Part of Key Worker and Therapy Support

For children participating in regular sessions, parent coaching is an integral part of the Key Worker’s role.

The Key Worker:

Models and demonstrates strategies during therapy sessions

Supports parents to understand their child’s developmental capacities and needs

Guides families in applying strategies at home and in daily routines

Ensures consistency and carryover between therapy and everyday life

This integrated approach strengthens parent confidence, supports meaningful progress, and promotes long-term developmental outcomes.
Parent coaching equips families with practical, evidence-based tools to support their child’s ongoing development. Contact the service to discuss which approach best suits your child.
